employeeYour workers deserve to be treated with fairness under employment laws and human rights. It is important to ensure you are complying with the current employment laws and also provide the correct documentation to your staff. When you begin running a small business it is imperative that you are complying with employment law regulations.

Regulations are known to change. As the government works to ensure you and your employees have the right protections changes are made. Technology can be a factor in employment changes since the industry changes. Legislative changes have been made since 1996, which could change how you need to run your business and employees. To make certain you are in compliance it is a good idea to understand each section such as what Section 1 Statement for New Employees should contain.

Section 1 in the employment rights and laws is a statement of initial employment specifics. This is a statement you make in written form to give to your new employee that will outline everything about the job they are accepting and any limitations, payroll increases, and laws that need to be followed. Here is what must be included in the statement.

  • You will always give your new employee a written statement and this statement must be provided within 2 months of beginning the employment.
  • In the statement you state the names of employer and employees, the date employment began and the date your employee will work for the company. This extermination date may not apply for all positions. If the employee is hired as a freelancer or consultant then there may be an end date to the employment a full time person would not have.
  • The statement will also need to include the payroll or remuneration rate or you can include the method of calculating payment. The way you intend on paying your employee such as weekly or monthly must also be specified in the agreement. If there are work hour terms and conditions these need to be mentioned with regard to holidays, sick, and work leave. Any pension scheme given should also be in this section of the statement.
  • If the employee wishes to end the contract they must comply with your requests regarding time and consideration to fill that position. You must also state the notice you are allowed to give should termination need to occur for breach of employment contract.
  • The job title and the full overview of that position must be included to protect the employee from taking on jobs they are not qualified for or something that is not under their prevue.
  • Should you offer outside options for the worker like working from home or moving around to the clients this work needs to be stated so the employer and employee can agree. This includes any work that may need to be conducted outside the UK.

As long as you have the above in a statement for employment you have provided detailed information to your employee under the UK employment laws. The contract must be adhered to on both sides in order to maintain fairness of employment. Your employee cannot have any issues with your place of work as long as everything is specified regarding their position and possible job requirements. Always make certain you provide this document even when running a small business as all employees are cared for under the UK employment laws.
