Workouts can either be classified as cardiovascular training or resistance training. As its name suggests, resistance training refers to pushing, pulling or lifting weights  while a Cardio workout refers to any activity that speeds up the heart rate.

All Cardio workouts are aimed at speeding up the heart rate. For an individual who is just a novice in working out and is in his late twenties or early thirties, the target heart rate is between 114 – 152 beats per minute.

Cardio workout is also called “aerobics”.  Health experts urge all people to at least squeeze in twenty to thirty minutes of their time daily to either walking or running; which is actually not hard to do. For people who don’t have time to go to the gym, walking is a very healthy alternative to their offices, if they just live nearby. Instead of taking the elevator, they can take a few flights of stairs on the way up or down.

Stair climbing is a very good means of pumping up your heart rate. So much emphasis is being given to making your heart beat faster during Cardio workouts; it is because your body’s fat burning mechanism only gets ignited once the target heart rate is reached. With that said, simple aerobic activities such as pre-workout stretching and brisk walking doesn’t burn that many calories.

Now, if you have time to spare by going to the gym regularly, it is very crucial for you to include twenty to thirty minutes of a cardio workout like the Insanity dvd to your exercise regimen. If your fitness goal is to shed off pounds, then you would have  to dedicate more than twenty minutes of Cardio three to four times a week.

Cardio workouts can be placed either before or after after lifting weights to mix things up, you may do Cardio sessions only during your off days from the gym.  Never go through an aerobic workout session with an empty stomach. This will greatly affect your endurance in performing the exercise; and the tendency to overeat after you workout is greater.

Remember, a gym membership is not required to be able to accomplish an effective Cardio workout. Its impact to your health and quality of life relies on how often you do it and how well you execute it: and with all fitness regimens, regular Cardio sessions will be more effective if a balanced diet and reduced carbohydrate and sugar consumption will be observed.
